The air was electric yesterday with the start of the games. For the Opening Ceremonies, they had advised everyone to stay away from the Olympic Park unless you had tickets. We decided to throw caution to the wind and take a ride up to the park. There were very few people on the footpath to the park, and we ended up coming upon a large screen TV that is used by the transportation (bus) hub for the games, which was showing the whole show inside the stadium. We got to see the early part of the ceremonies and parade of athletes, which was really enjoyable. We left before it was over to start the 40 minute train ride back to our apartment. As we walked from the Tube, we saw a TV on in a restaurant which showed the Olympic flag being marched in. We realized we had time to see the ending and raced back to our room, just in time to see the lighting of the torch and fireworks. We could actually hear the explosions from our room. Very exciting.
Today the day is glorious - cool and sunny. We are off to archery at the historic Lord's Cricket ground.
Life is good! More updates to come . . .
